Today is very special one for us here at Thieves’ Kitchen. Phil Mercy explains:
“Twenty years ago today I met a bass player called Paul Beecham at a prog festival in Whitchurch, Hampshire, and after a day of very pleasant banter and music consumption, we decided to form a band. Whilst it was to be a few more months before the first line-up of Thieves’ Kitchen was complete, the band’s ultimate inception dates back to that meeting on 25th July 1998.
“It’s amazing and humbling to me to think that the band is still around and making music, and there’s no way that Paul and I could have predicted such longevity. The anniversary leads me to want to thank every member of the band, past and present, and the many others who have contributed along the way: musicians, artists, technicians, distributors, fans, friends and family. We are so grateful to all of you.
“We’ve been working hard to be ready for the mixing of our seventh album in August but, today, my mind turns to reflection, and to a sunny afternoon in Hampshire with Gentle Giant on the stereo. Thank you everybody, and thank you Paul.”
