Over two decades, each Thieves’ Kitchen album has featured a new line-up of performers, and each former member remains a friend and a member of the TK family.
However, for the first time, the line-up for Genius Loci remains unchanged from 2015’s The Clockwork Universe, and we have welcomed back the remarkable talents of drummer Paul Mallyon (ex-Sanguine Hum), bassist Johan Brand (Änglagård, All Traps on Earth) and flautist Anna Holmgren (Änglagård).
These three phenomenal musicians have helped give Genius Loci a beauty and complexity that we honestly believe makes the album a worthy successor to The Clockwork Universe. While “no change” may seem to be an unlikely news item, for us it’s a really important indicator of how we choose to craft our current sound, and how very ‘right’ we feel that the palette of tones and talents is now. And hopefully you’ll be able to hear that stability in the music as the performances unfold together within the songs. It’s a joy and a privilege to work with Anna, Paul and Johan again.
